I've never played CounterStrike or any of the other games you mentioned, but jump-in camping in Eve is done by everyone.
Alright, just because something is done by everyone doesn't make it acceptable, but believe me, the current PvP status affects everyone and jump-in camping is the result of :
a) Immunity timer - targets can see the Threat Indicator, read War & Peace, and then casually warp away before you even get a chance to lock them.
Solution: Reduce or completely remove it.
b) Sentry Guns - everywhere.
Solution: Make sentry guns weaker so that they are a deterrent but not God-killers.
c) A ridiculous region layout - everything pirates want (traders, miners, and other assorted prey) are centralised in Eve. 0.0 space surrounds this central point thus making it very easy for someone to get everything they want without even going to low security space.
Solution: Untamed (0.0 space) systems between each of the regions that cannot be surprassed by the super highways.
d) Ridiculous security rating of systems leading up to 0.0 space - Keberz, next door to HED-GP, is a 0.8 and it's next door to one of the greatest killing fields in Eve? Very realistic - as systems near 0.0 space shouldn't they gradually decreased in safety?
Solution: Graduate security systems to get lower as you approach 0.0 space (and see next point below).
e) Valleys of Death - why are there just 8 or so commonly jump-in camped systems? Because those systems are the focal point of entry to low sec space.
Solution: Stop making routes to 0.0 space so obvious - give much more different lanes to 0.0 space.
This is just an amalgamation of most of the best ideas to have come from the disussion of PvP balance in recent weeks.

Quote: According to definitions i heard, "griefing is attacking miners" (in low sec. space, in the asteroid belt) So don't kid yourself about that not labeling part.... ;s

Quote: And while the invulnerability timers do make it easy to run, removing them would make spawn-camping even worse, since the "pirates" could blow up people far easier before the other player ever has control of their ship (this happens too much NOW, let's not make it worse). Invulnerability timers exist to compensate for lag issues. Still, if you're mining or hunting NPC rats, you don't want to leave. If someone jumps in and you run, you'll be abandoning your ore or loot to them (kind of a definition of piracy actually).
TomB has said they're looking at the loading issue. Hopefully this will mean both clients simultaneously become aware of their/your presence in the system. This means the immunity timer can go bye-bye.

Quote: I agree with most of Jash's points, except about the multiple routes to 0.0 space.
While it might help some people in the short run, I think it will only lead to problems in the long run.
Trying to stop an enemy corp from getting back to the empire? Not if there's 4 routes..
If there's only one route to a certain part of 0.0 space then there'd be no point graduating the security status because the first 0.4 system would the hot spot.

Also, carebears will never be satisfied.
It's in their nature to complain regardless of whether what they're complaining about is working well and with balance.
In a carebears opinion, anything that doesn't let them get their own way is highly unbalanced.

Quote: Speaking of HED-GP, I spent a good deal of time in that system. Its a chokepoint to curse stain and theres roughly 1 ship per minute jumping to or from keberz.
Why aren't the "pirates" camping there? Lots of traffic, rich curse and stain guys in BS mostly.
I also thought Keberz was a .5 system but could be wrong.
Infinity
I'm pretty sure Keberz is 0.8 but I'd hate to put money on it
HED-GP is camped on and off by CA & SA forces but, to be honest, both sides have it so well-covered that it's rare to even have a battle there. Plus, it has those dreadful grids near the SV5 jumpgate.

Ah well, the point was still valid!
As for immunity timers:
Quote: [ 2003.11.13 18:35:05 ] (notify) Interference from the warp Lassie's Revenge is preventing your sensors from getting a target lock on them.
I wouldn't have to put up with this if they were gone from the game.
